Myong Hi Kim and Tchah Sup Kim have shared a long life together and although not workmates, are interested in some similar pursuits such as travel. While riding the trans-Siberian rail line they sought to trace migration of Koreans across Central Asia when as a way of gaining their foothold in Siberia, the Soviets forced 170,00 of them to relocate. Many such travel experiences are seen in their works in which they show themes of geopolitical division, dislocation and displacement. Another nexus where their interests cross is formal. Whether they paint people or landscapes their painted backgrounds are dark creating somber mood much like 17th Century Dutch art.
