WU Yuren, an independent artist, was born in 1971 in Jintan City, Jiangsu Province, now currently lives in Beijing. In 1994 he graduated from the Art Department of Jiangsu Technology Normal Academy, Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. In 2004 he was visiting Professor on Contemporary Chinese Art, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Protecting the eviction of artists in the art zone, he led a demonstration captured in his documentary ‘Brick Party’. One of his installation works used the ‘limited Items’ he made during his incarceration. In this installation, he has tortured tools, limiting their utility. In this way he obliquely suggests that restrictive government policies are destructive and inhibit peoples’ productivity and usefulness. In many videos he addresses the theme of human rights.
