Wang Qingsong was born in 1966 in Daqing, Heilongjiang province, like his father, who died prematurely, he worked in the mines until he decided to go to art school; in 1993 he enrolled in the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. WANG has used his art to criticize the problems of contemporary China. His constructed photographs, employing great numbers of people, ridicule the corporate culture, which abuses laborers from the countryside, the rampant destruction of architectural monuments in the cities, the life of itinerants from the countryside; warfare, religion, the educational system and more.
