Stella Nicolaou artist and teacher when not revisiting her favorite paintings in the museums and galleries of Manhattan, artist Stella Nicolaou divides her time between the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. In Queens she has her own studio in Astoria, and in Brooklyn she serves as an adjunct assistant professor of art and advertising design at CUNY’s New York City Technical College. Born in Cyprus, Nicolaou moved with her family to Queens when she was just 9. Nicolaou, who has an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and BFA from Cooper Union, has taught at Berkeley College for the past 22 years and was instrumental in the development of the new degree offered by Berkeley College, the Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design. Nicolaou’s work has been exhibited in selected venues such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Lincoln Center, Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus, Grace Gallery, Womanart Gallery, Parsons School of Design, the Houghton Gallery at Cooper Union and Elaine Benson Gallery in Bridgehampton.
