George Hadjimichalis

George Hadjimichalis is a visual artist born in Athens in 1954. His first solo show took place in Ashantour Bacharian’s Gallery “Ora” in 1977, and he has been exhibiting regularly ever since. In 2001, the National Museum of Contemporary Art held a large exhibition, George Hadjimichalis, Works 1985 – 2000, and a show entitled George Hadjimichalis, Seven Works (1990-2000) was organized in 2002 by MoMA/PS1 in New York. In 2005, he represented Greece in the Venice Biennale. George Hadjimichalis has taken part in many important exhibitions, a few of which are: DOCUMENTA 9, in 1992 in Kassel Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain of Bretania “The Theoretical Object” 1993, Schirn Kunsthalle, G. Tsarouchis, S. Antonakos, G. Hadjimichalis, Frankfurt, 2001 National Museum of Contemporary Art, Intercivilizations, Athens, 2004 Museum Serralves, “The Decade of the 80s, A Topology”, Porto, Portugal, 2007 The work of George Hadjimichalis is versatile. His works are parts of greater units. In creating a piece of work, he often employs a variety of different media, such as video, photography, text, painting, printmaking, etc. Several units that make up the artist’s body of work have never been exhibited.
