The GAO Brothers, Gao Chen and Gao Qiang, born in 1956 and 1962, in Jinan, in the province of Shandong are fervent Christians whose art has been boldly critical of the Chinese regime for decades. One of their famous images of Ms. Mao brutally ridicules the Chinese leader and his abuses; other works protest the persecution of prostitution, the problem of itinerants, overbuilding of the cities and lately a series of life size bronze sculptures feature Mao aiming a riffle to execute Christ. Their photographic works often document their performances. They write about this image of the Statue of Liberty.
