Frauke Schlitz

Frauke Schlitz works in drawing and installation. The city as an experiential space has become the focus of her work.

Schlitz exhibited in solo and group shows at museums, galleries and art institutions nationally and internationally. Recent solo and two person shows include GEDOK Gallery Stuttgart (2021); Gallery SmudaJescheck, München (2021); Galerie im Flüchttor, Brackenheim (2018); Silas von Morisse Gallery, Brooklyn (2017); Galerie Oberwelt, Stuttgart (2017); Galerie im Kornhaus, Kirchheim (2017). She participated in group exhibitions at venues including  Galerie oqbo, Berlin (2023,2016); Solid Transitions, Stuttgart (2023); Consulat General of France, NYC (2022); MMCA Changdong, Seoul (2019); AKKU, Stuttgart (2019); Shiva Gallery, NYC (2017); Wuerttembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart (2018, 2016, 2013); International Drawing Biennial, Pilsen CZ (2014).

Frauke Schlitz received several grants among them a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2023; a grant from the Ministery of Science, Research and Arts, State Baden-Württemberg in 2021; a grant from Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn in 2020 among others.

Schlitz has been awarded fellowships and residencies including the International Artist Residency of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Seoul, Korea (2019), the John Hargraves and Nancy Newcomb Fellowship at MacDowell, NH (2017); the Visiting Artist Residency Trestle Gallery, NYC (2016); Millay Colony of the Arts, NY (2016); Art Omi International Art Center, NY (2014).

Schlitz graduated from University of Arts Berlin (MFA). She has taught art at several German and European art schools. She was an Assistant Professor at the Academy of  Fine Arts Stuttgart (2000-2006) and taught as lecturer of fine arts at the University of Education Weingarten (2012-2015), as Visiting Artist at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera in Milano (2006) and at Haute Ecole des Arts et de Design in Geneve (2008).
