CHEN Longbin who was born in 1964 in Taiwan, lives and works in New York City. Chen makes his works of art out of books which he sculpts, often with the help of a buzz saw. Dedicated to the book culture, his works preserve the original function of the book, which can often still be read by fanning its pages. His topics are diverse, with portraits of important political, scientific, eligious and artistic leaders. Using old, discarded books, newspapers, phonebooks, and magazines, he carves portraits whose content is reflected in the material.
