Ki Tae Park (B. 1985, Gwangju)
Ki Tae Park, who is based in Gwangju, naturally recognizes as he grows up that the roots of his identity are based on the May 18 Democratization Movement that resisted violence. His understanding of the area’s historic aspect leads to the conviction that art-making should be about perceiving oneself in the present while keeping the past, and passing on to the next generation things that are right, valuable, and deserving of preservation in an effort at forward-looking growth. The artist, who usually sculpts by welding metal, represents the original form of human sentiments through a simplified herd of bovines, and community is a theme of his art. He recently participated in a May 18 special documentary produced by Gwangju KBS TV as an illustrator, and he represented the era’s painful incident through drawing on metal.
Park earned an art degree from Chonnam National University and completed coursework at the Chonnam National University Graduate School, and his recent one-person exhibitions include Reflection (Yegaram-gil Gallery, Namwon), Accompaniment (Juan Art Museum, Gwangju), and Walking Women 1 (Holly Art Polygon, Gwangju). Major group exhibitions include Han River Amusement Project (Ttukseom, Seoul), Spring Again in May (Mudeung Gallery, Gwangju), Smarter Home (Gwangju Media 338), ISEA2019 LUX Aeterna (ACC, Gwangju). The artist has won the Mudeung Art Exhibition Grand Prize, Gwangju Art Exhibition Special Selection Award, and the Bae Dong-shin Eodeung Art Exhibition Excellent Artist Award.
박기태(1985, 광주 출생)
광주를 근거로 활동하는 박기태는 자라나면서 자연스럽게 자신의 정체성의 뿌리가 폭력에 저항한 5·18민주화운동에 근거하고 있음을 인지하게 된다. 지역의 역사성에 대한 이해는 작가는 예술 활동이란 과거를 간직하며 현재에서 자신을 인식하고 미래를 향한 성장의 노력으로 옳은 것, 가치 있는 것, 보존해야 할 것을 다음 세대에 전달되어야 할 것이라는 신념을 가지게 된다. 주로 철을 이용한 용접기법으로 작업하는 작가는 단순화된 소의 군상을 통해 인간 정서의 원형을 표현하며, 셀프의 나로부터 공동체, 동행이라는 삶의 의미를 작품의 주제로 잡아낸다. 최근 광주 KBS TV에서 제작한 5.18 특집 다큐멘터리의 삽화 제작에 참여하였는데 조각의 재료인 철판에 날카롭게 표현한 드로잉으로 시대의 아픔을 담아냈다.
박기태는 전남대학교 미술학과를 졸업하고 동 대학원을 수료했으며, 최근에 가진 개인전으로 《반추》(남원 예가람길갤러리, 남원), 《동행》 (주안미술관, 광주), 그리고 《걷는 여자들1》 (호랑가시나무 아트폴리곤, 광주)가 있다. 주요 단체전으로 《한강 흥 프로젝트》 (한강,뚝섬 야외 전시, 서울), 《오월 다시 봄》 (무등갤러리 광주), 《Smarter Home》 (광주 미디어 338), 《ISEA2019 LUX Aeterna》 (ACC, 광주)에 참여하였다. 작가의 수상 경력으로는 무등미술대전 (대상), 광주광역시 미술대전 (특선), 배동신 어등미술대전 (우수작가상) 등이 있다.
