Virginia de Medeiros’ work centers on documentary strategies, as a means to transgress mainstream accounts and question the boundaries between reality and fiction. The artist deals with three themes within the field of art and documentary: dislocation, participation, and fabulation. Adapting documentary images and lived accounts, she employs the latter for subjective and conceptual use to revision the representation of reality and alterity. Born in Feira de Santana/BA, Brazil, in 1973, Medeiros lives and works in São Paulo/SP, Brazil. Her work has been featured in biennials such as Jogja Biennale XIV, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2017), and the 27th and 31st editions of the Bienal de São Paulo, São Paulo/SP, Brazil (2006 and 2014), as well the 32nd Panorama da Arte Brasileira, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM-SP), São Paulo/SP, Brazil (2011).
